What Fieldbase connects to
Openness is the point here, not a feature. No farm runs one manufacturer and nobody replaces working equipment because software asked it to Fieldbase is built to meet your business needs and what is already in your yard. Found somthing unsupported? Reach out and we will review!
ISOBUS terminals
Fieldbase exports ISOXML TASKDATA.XML with one Partfield per plot, so plots are individually selectable at the terminal. Machine-setup exports carry the trigger points and the driven route.
| Terminal | How it connects |
|---|---|
| John Deere GreenStar | ISOXML TASKDATA.XML via USB or file transfer |
| Fendt | ISOXML TASKDATA.XML via USB or file transfer |
| CNH (Case IH / New Holland) | ISOXML TASKDATA.XML via USB or file transfer |
| Other ISOBUS terminals | Any terminal that reads ISOXML task data; shapefile, KML and GeoJSON exports cover the rest |
GPS receivers
Any NMEA 0183 receiver over serial works; these arrive as named presets with the right framing already set.
| Receiver | Notes |
|---|---|
| Generic USB / serial GPS | Any NMEA 0183 receiver, with common baud rates probed on connect |
| u-blox ZED-F9P RTK rover | The board inside most low-cost RTK kit, such as SparkFun GPS-RTK2 and ArduSimple simpleRTK2B |
| Raven RS1 / RS Lite | Tapped at the receiver's own serial output, set to 3D GPS output |
| Raven CR7 / CR12 | The Port B message set for a receiver feeding the display |
RTK corrections
A built-in NTRIP client on desktop and mobile connects to any caster, with position upload for network (VRS) services that require it.
| Source | Notes |
|---|---|
| Any NTRIP caster | Address, mountpoint, credentials. The client speaks the protocol, including its quirks |
| Free state CORS networks (US) | More than twenty US states run free correction networks. See the RTK page |
| Commercial VRS networks | Subscription services broadcast over NTRIP; enter the details from your welcome email |
Instruments over serial
The parse is data, not code: each of these is a preset you can adjust, and a device nobody has seen can be added by watching its raw lines.
| Instrument | Notes |
|---|---|
| Bench and platform scales | Continuous print with a stability flag, or one line per press of PRINT |
| Grain gauges | A plot combine's weigh bucket, giving weight, moisture and test weight per plot |
| Grain moisture meters | Moisture and temperature per sample |
| NIR / grain analysers | Protein, moisture and oil as a labelled line |
| Applied Measurements TR150 | Handheld load cell indicator, streaming on every display update |
| Anything printing CSV | A starting point preset. Edit the columns to match your device |
Output hardware
Fieldbase does the machine control; the hardware is standard industrial switching (USB and Modbus RTU relay modules), so there is no proprietary control box. Trigger stages map to channels as pulse, latch or PWM, and a device that is not listed can still be driven through the generic serial output.
| Hardware | Notes |
|---|---|
| I/O boards (supplied firmware) | Fieldbase firmware for common USB microcontroller boards, with a USB-loss failsafe that drives every channel to its safe state |
| USB relay modules | DSD TECH, LC Technology LCUS and Numato Lab ranges, 1–8 channels, as named presets |
| Modbus RTU relay modules | Waveshare RS-485 range, 1–8 channels, at a configurable device address |
Design tools and analysis
Fieldbase works downstream of trial design and upstream of whatever reads your results.
| Tool | Direction |
|---|---|
| ARM, agricolae, FielDHub, Breedbase | Fieldbook import, binding the design onto the grid's lattice |
| Spreadsheets | Fieldbook import with a proposed, confirmable column mapping |
| R, Python, and statistics packages | XLSX and CSV out, one row per plot, with provenance columns |
| BrAPI v2 consumers | Observation hand-off to breeding pipelines that speak BrAPI |
A device that is not listed is usually still reachable: instrument parsing is defined as data that can be adjusted against the device’s own output, and unlisted switching hardware can be driven through the generic serial output. If something in your shed will not connect, tell us what it is. Presets are cheap to add.
